Digital Bahá’í Resources is the parent organization for a suite of digital projects including Bahaipedia.org, Bahai.works, Bahai.media, and Bahaidata.org. We are committed to maintaining the trust of our contributors and visitors.

1. Website Visitors

This website (digitalbahairesources.org) is largely read-only and designed to provide transparency regarding our projects. For visitors to this site:

  • Logs: We may collect standard server logs (IP address, user agent, time of visit) to generate the aggregate traffic statistics found on our "Traffic" tab. These logs are used solely for performance monitoring and security.
  • Cookies: This website does not use cookies for general visitors.

2. Browser Extensions & Software Tools

We develop browser extensions (such as the "Bahá’í Text Cataloger") to assist researchers in tagging and organizing text on our partner wikis. If you choose to install and authenticate with these tools, we collect the following specific data:

Authentication Data

To ensure data integrity, our tools require authentication using your MediaWiki credentials (specifically, a unique "Bot Password"). We store:

  • Your MediaWiki Username (to attribute your contributions).
  • An encrypted token derived from your Bot Password.

User Activity & Content

When you actively use our extensions to contribute data, we collect:

  • Selected Text: The specific snippets of text you highlight or tag.
  • Page Metadata: The source URL, page ID, and revision ID of the content you are annotating.
  • Tags & Annotations: Any metadata you manually attach to the text.

This data is stored in our secure database and is used exclusively to build knowledge graphs and improve search retrieval systems for the Bahá’í Writings.

3. Data Sharing & Security

We do not sell, trade, or rent user personal identification information to others.

Public Contributions

Please be aware that, like any wiki project, the text highlights and tags you submit are intended to become part of a public or semi-public dataset to aid research.

Data Removal

Users of our tools have the ability to delete their own contributions directly through the tool interface. If you require assistance removing data, please contact us.
